Maggie - December 2011

**MAGGIE UPDATE: Maggie was recently adopted by a sweet family with 3 children and another dog. She is in heaven, and is worlds away from her horrific life on the streets. She has healed from all of her ailments and is a playful pup. Just the way she was supposed to be!

Everyone meet Maggie! She was an "accidental" rescue. I was searching for another dog that I've been watching in the my school's south Dallas neighborhood. Of course, I couldn't find him anywhere. But, who comes prancing up to my car to greet me instead?! This little cutie. She was sheepish at first, and definitely a little leery of me and my intentions as I opened my car door to pet her. I knew she was too cute to leave behind though when her tail began to wag back and forth as she inched closer for some attention.

At first, I had to check my surroundings. I was in a very dangerous apartment complex parking lot (alone), and I never know who is going to "claim" these dogs as their own just to make a few bucks off of me. It has happened too many times to count. After I watched her wander over to dig in the trash, I just scooped her up and threw her in the back seat as quickly as I could. I can't stand to see a dog dig in the nasty trash for food scraps. A few people were watching, and I sped off before anyone could gripe me out (or shoot me).

She was stinky, scared, and hungry. But she is now SAFE!! Thanks to the precious saints at Take Me Home Pet Rescue, she was immediately accepted into their program and I took her straight to their vet. She's 8 months old, 25 lbs, and heart-worm negative. YAY! A special thanks to JP Bonnelly and Rekka Melby for always pleading my case and getting these sweet street dogs accepted into some sort of local rescue. They never fail to amaze me!

Next step, we must find a foster...and soon. She is safe, but she is still living outside in the cold. For those in my family who are reading this and think I am psycho for taking in yet another dog, hold your hilarious comments. I didn't bring this one home. I'm excited to go visit her again tomorrow. I'll go get her and bathe her, but she will sadly have to return to her kennel. She is currently being boarded in an boarding facility until we can find her a foster. She is 25 lbs of pure preciousness. She doesn't have a mean bone in her body. The rescue pays all her bills. She just needs a loving home for the holidays! Anyone who is interested, contact me immediately.

Updates to come as I get them...

First meeting :)

Grateful for affection

Freedom from the harsh streets

Just like a baby, she fell asleep after only a few minutes in the car. She fell asleep face-first, which I thought was absolutely adorable.

Such a sweet face!!

Don't mind how terrible I look. We were both freezing, dirty, and tired at this point. Maggie still looks adorable though!!

Ian - October 2010

This sweet, precious little guy was the 1st dog that I attempted to save from the streets. I was taking a student home when I saw him walking on the sidewalk by himself. He was so stinking cute, and I just knew that he would find a home quickly. I asked the student if he belonged to anyone. She said that he typically roamed around for food and that various neighbors would feed him. That was enough information for me to snatch him up and take him home! He didn't know it yet, but this was his lucky day. When I walked over to him, he got very low to the ground and cowered in fear. I started petting him, and his tail started wagging. I knew right away that this sweet guy was going to be adopted quickly.

I was right...Days later, a friend of a friend saw his picture on Facebook and messaged me to see if she could meet him. It was love at first sight! Leigh, thank you so much for adopting him. And a special thanks to Amy for spreading his picture around.

On his way to his furever home!!!

In bed, under the covers on a cold day. Sure beats the streets :)
